Happy dogs leap across a wintery Montreal moon like landscape.
Had to dig deep to find a track that fit the cold windswept terrain and primal dog enthusiasm for snow in this video but soon remembered “Ritual”, a track I recorded a few years ago with a laid back downtempo beat and dubbed out echoing analog beacon that envokes wide open spaces and positive vibrations.

It’s cold and snowy outside so warm up with this steamy acid ice road trucker. Smank Rock is an unstoppable analog rocker from your friendly neighborhood Insomniak featuring some rude Korg Mono/Poly tweaking, a ripping x0xb0x acid line and a stomping beat.
This all vinyl DJ mix features driving intergalactic late 70s and early 80s synthesizer music from some recently acquired, somewhat exotic production library records.
Production or Library music is royalty free music created to be used in film scores, TV shows, commercials and radio jingles. Although destined for commercial use much of this music is far from conservative and represent cutting edge sounds of the times. As you will hear many of these jams probe deep in to the future with their creative use of vintage synthesizers or just kick back with jazz and funk grooves.
I named this mix Bibliotheque, the French word for “Library” because the majority of these tracks are from French production houses with a few from the UK as well. Labels include KoKa Media,RCA Media, Spectrum Mood Library and Bruton Music.
Mixing was a challenge as these records are new to me and contain many tracks each with lots of jingles less than than a minute long but on the plus side they usually have descriptive track names that describe the mood and tempo. Sorry no track list but I am happy with the results that show off a wide range of cool old school library tracks. Enjoy this mix of rarely heard vinyl and be taken away to a retro 80s sci-fi dramatic adventure through time and space!

The face twisting dirty acid track Party Crasher is another Insomniak builder with a solid shuffling beat and growling acid bassline joined by some disorienting mental synth sounds for maximum confusion.

Follow the perverted analog basslines and chopped breakbeat rhythms that accompany lost audio samples from vinyl, tapes, movies, radio and tv cut together in an all new sampledellic adventure.
This album represents a departure from my harder dancefloor oriented productions in favor of cut up lo-fi samples but there’s no shortage of warpy bass lines and spaced out break beats. I had lots of fun collecting the b-movie and old time radio dialog and crafting my own tripped out soundtrack from the vintage sounds and voices from the past.

The Night Watch EP is a late night journey through a seedy past and a perilous future captured with long lost lo-fi samples, moody vinyl breaks and warbling vintage synths. More of a mind bender then a dance floor filler but still built on a sold rhythmic foundation.
This new dubstep track samples heavily from an ill horror movie called Frailty – although the film has mostly flown under the radar since its 2001 release it is def worth checking out. A father enlists his children to help him destroy demons using magical weapons he has been given by god. It stars Bill Paxton and the voice of Matthew McConaughey in tense and well acted roles and while the story contains many twists it never loses continuity. Check out the Frailty forums on IMDB after you have seen it for any subtle touches you may have missed, there are many layers of detail making a second watching a whole new experience.
Musically this is my first shot at straight ahead dubstep although my bass and breaks productions of the past could still be included within the dubstep realm. It’s also an experiment in the latest Ableton Live which kicks ass so far!
